Julián Casanova is Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Zaragoza. His publications include La historia social y los historiadores  (Crítica, Barcelona, 1991); Anarchism, the Republic and Civil War in Spain: 1931-1939 (Routledge, London and New York, 2005); La Iglesia de Franco (Temas de Hoy, Madrid, 2001; Crítica, Barcelona, 2005); The Spanish Republic and Civil War,  (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 2010); A Short History of the Spanish Civil War (I.B. Tauris, October 2012); Europa contra Europa, 1914-1945 (Crítica, Barcelona, 2011); and, with Carlos Gil Andrés, Twentieth Century Spain. A History (Cambridge University Press, 2012). His last book is La venganza de los siervos. Russia 1917 (Crítica, 2017).

 Professor Casanova has been Visiting Professor in several and prestigious Universities of Europe, USA and South America, among them Queen Mary College (London), Harvard University, University of Notre Dame, New School for Social Research (New York), FLACSO (Quito) and the Central European University of Budapest. He has also been Member of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (2018-2019). He is member of the Editorial Committee of the journal Historia Social and member of the Advisory Board of Cuadernos de Historia de España (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
