Xymena Kurowska is an IR theorist interested in interpretive policy analysis. She earned her doctoral degree at European University Institute in Florence, Italy. Her research, teaching and writing lie within International Political Sociology, with particular focus on security theory and practice, border politics, subjectivity, and interpretive methodologies. She was a fellow in the European Foreign and Security Policy Studies Programme researching border policies in Eastern Europe. She served as the CEU principal investigator in Global Norm Evolution and Responsibility to Protect project within Europe and Global Challenges framework studying Russian approaches to humanitarianism. Between September 2017 and August 2019 she is a Marie Curie fellow in the Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth University with a project on reflexivity in European border guard training. 

She welcomes inquiries and MA and PhD topics in the area of: International Political Sociology, social/IR/security theory, external/internal security policy, international intervention and state-building, EU-Eastern Europe relations, norms in international politics, and interpretive methodologies.
