Angela Palágyi was born in the former Soviet Union. She attended the State University of Kishinev (Moldova) and the Babeș-Bolyai University (Romania). She obtained a Masters degree in Russian and French philology at ELTE University of Budapest. She made her doctoral research in the field of Russian linguistics and obtained her PhD in 2011 with a thesis on multilingual communities in the Ukraine and Moldova. Her scientific publications concern different parts of Russian linguistics: comparative analysis of verbal aspect in European languages, fieldwork on bilingualism in the post-Soviet republics, linguistic analysis of literary translations.
She worked in various universities of Budapest and Vienna, such as ELTE (Department of Russian Language and Literature), Budapest School of Economics, CEU. Now she is teaching in Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest, CEU and in the Doctoral School of Linguistics of ELTE.
