Ulrich Meurer is visiting professor of 'Visual Theory and Practice' and teaches in the BA program 'Culture, Politics, and Society' at Central European University. He studied Comparative and English Literature as well as Theater Studies at the University of Munich. After receiving his doctorate in American and Film Studies at the University of Konstanz, he has been Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature at Leipzig, Associate Professor of Film Theory and History at the University of Vienna, and research fellow at the Hellenic Institute for Byzantine Studies, Venice, Princeton University, and MIT. He is the author of Topographies: Concepts of Space in Postmodern Literature and Film (in German), has edited several books on cinema cultures and published widely on media philosophy, visual theory and film/media archeology.
